Caltrans is proposing a 165-foot-wide, 200-foot-long wildlife overpass on the 101 Freeway near Liberty Canyon Road. The concept aims to encourage mountain lions, bobcats and other wildlife across a landscaped bridge in order to prevent deaths related to automobile collisions and to promote genetic diversity within the species by providing access to new territory.

The overpass would connect the Santa Monica Mountains with the Simi Hills and Santa Susana Mountains. The projected construction costs are expected to range between $33 million and $38 million.
